Lunches for Mommy & Daddy: 10.8.12

I went to a fabulous Iranian/Persian cooking night on Sunday night with my co-workers from Kiss the Cook (a local kitchen supply store), and I brought a couple Easylunchboxes so that I could bring home leftovers for lunches for Daddy and I.

I made some Iranian cucumber salad, Naan Barbari, and Persian Panir.  There are two kinds of basmati rice, a yummy eggplant and beef stew, and a chicken, rice, and yogurt dish that was served like a pie (but fell apart in the lunchbox..).  I can't wait for lunch!  It's a lot of rice, but it's all different flavors and so delicious.

Recipe: Buffalo Hot Dogs

I love Buffalo wings.  Major craving.  The kids are not really fans (yet) of spicy things... so they had plain hot dogs, and I had a couple of these Buffalo Hot Dogs.

I thought them up while on my way home from work on my bike yesterday.  I'm really happy with how they turned out, and I want to make them again for people (more than myself) who would appreciate them.  The recipe below is for 8 hot dogs, but I only used it for my own two.

For now, I had a yummy dinner.  And that counts for a lot in my book.  Tee hee.

I used some Cabot Greek Yogurt in the sauce - stay tuned, because I have a great review & giveaway coming soon for Cabot!

Buffalo Hot Dogs

8 hot dogs (I like Oscar Meyer Selects)
1/4 c plain Cabot Greek yogurt
2 Tbsp ranch dressing
2 Tbsp buffalo wing sauce (more or less, to taste)
1/4 c gorgonzola or blue cheese
8 hot dog buns

Cook the hot dogs according to package directions.  Mix together the yogurt, ranch dressing, buffalo wing sauce, and cheese.  Cut the hot dogs into bite sized pieces and mix with the sauce.  Spoon into buns and top with additional cheese and buffalo sauce, if desired.

Enjoy!  (I also bet they would be lovely topped with celery...)

Lunches for The Boy & The Girl: 10.4.12 - World Animal Day Blog Hop!

It's another two-for-one lunch post.  This time, it's for the Bento Blogger & Friends World Animal Day Blog Hop.

Each of us chose an animal to feature in our lunches, so if you hop on through, you'll get a little trip through our lunchtime zoo!

My animal is a rhinoceros.  Mostly, I had a rhinoceros cookie cutter I've been wanting to use for while.

For snack, the kids have some dried fruit in little hippo containers (from Easter)

Their lunch is a rhino ham sandwich with a little mayo, on whole wheat tortillas, atop a bed of salad, with some ranch dressing in the small lego container.   They also have some strawberries, and some Cabot Greek yogurt with a little maple syrup and some fall sprinkles, in an Easylunchbox Mini Dipper.
Strawberries: 3g, yogurt: 15g, cookies: 10g, salad & ranch: 3g, rhino: 10g
The Boy also has some ABC cinnamon graham crackers.

The Girl has some mini nilla wafers.

Their lunches are all packed up in their Easylunchboxes.

Hop on over to Bento-logy to see what animal is next, and then follow on through to see what everyone else has come up with!  Happy World Animal Day!
