Review & Giveaway: MOMables!!

School's starting soon.  Are you stressed out by the prospect of planning lunches for your kids?  Do you wish sometimes that someone else would do all the thinking for you?

MOMables to the rescue!

Every week, MOMables members get access to 5 well-planned menus.  For the school year, they are for lunches (mostly), and during the summer, there are 3 dinner recipes and 2 lunch plans.  I was thrilled to get the chance to check it out.

Now, I am aware that I am probably not the typical person.  I wake up in the morning and start thinking about what I am going to be preparing for dinner.  On my morning commute, I contemplate lunch options.  I've had several wonderful baking ideas on long bike rides.  I know... I'm weird.

Because not everyone is as crazy as I am, something like MOMables could be invaluable.  Prices range from $5-$6/month (depending on how long you sign up for).  For that price, you get access to a weekly PDF with your menu items for the week, a grocery list, and recipes.  It's so convenient!

The wonderful people at MOMables gave me a 3-month subscription to check it out and review for you, and I have to say, the first week was a stellar success.

The first menu item that I tried was the Crockpot Chicken Cacciatore.  Wow!  It was simple to put together and so delicious.  The great thing about them is that you can really modify them according to what you have on hand.  I happened to have some tiny bell pepper on hand, so I used those instead of the bell peppers in the recipe.  I used some chunky veggie tomato sauce instead of a can of crushed tomatoes.  Chicken drumsticks were on sale, so I used them instead of thighs.  It's the general idea that's important.

The next delicious meal was Cheesy Crockpot Tortellini.  This recipe is one of many that is available freely on the MOMables blog.

This one I changed up by using sweet Italian turkey sausage, frozen cheese tortellini, sliced baby portabello mushrooms, and more of that chunky tomato sauce I had from the cacciatore.

And finally, my favorite dinner recipe for the week - Thai Lettuce Cups.  These were so flavorful and fun.  The kids loved them.  Leftovers made great lunches for me and a friend.  Seriously.  I can't wait to make them again.
Hey, lookie!  I got a delicious lunch out of the leftovers!

Because the kids are still not back to school, and we didn't have any grand outings this week, I decided to use the MOMables recipe for egg salad in a simple dinner (served on mini homemade hot dog buns).  We discovered that The Boy likes egg salad now!  He had turned his nose up at it for a long time, but I am thrilled to report that he ate 3 little sandwiches.  Yay!

One great thing about MOMables recipes is that they are all put together with a busy person in mind.  None of these took longer than half an hour to make.  Lunches are designed to take less than 10 minutes to put together.

And the grocery list!  I love the grocery list!

Ready for the good news?  The generous people over at MOMables are offering a 3-month subscription to their service to one lucky ready! I am not going to make you "like" MOMables on Facebook (but you totally should), or me (ditto!), because I don't want to discriminate against the non-facebook readers.  So - to enter (and I'm trying this Rafflecopter thing for the first time, so let me know what you think!), simply comment on this post and tell me what kind of menu items you'd like to see on MOMables, or something you like about the service.

  8. I'm always looking for ways to get more protein in my kids' diets. They are total carb lovers, which is OK, but not all the time. I also dislike cooking after a long day so I'm always looking for fresh, healthy but super easy dinners!

  13. I am TERRIBLE at planning meals! We often eat the same things over and over rather than trying new things. I love 6 ingredient or less recipes.

  14. I'd love to see some snack ideas and sides. I can always come up with the main part of the meal, but I am always wondering what to add to it to make it complete. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  16. I loved making school lunches for about the first 2 months of my oldest's pre-K year. After that I was pretty much over it. So I'm looking for fast, nut-free school lunch ideas.
