Lunches for an Outing: Shelburne Museum 6.18.16

It's summer vacation, which means time for our little day adventures (and hopefully some bigger ones, too!)

My mom and I brought the kids to one of our favorite places in Vermont, the Shelburne Museum.  This place is AWESOME, and if you are ever in Vermont, I cannot recommend it enough!

I was really pleased that this time, the kids really were enjoying the art more than they have on previous visits.

The museum has a lot of history, as well as some really great art.

And we brought lunches, of course!

I packed us sandwiches with herbed turkey, spinach, cheese, and muhammara, along with sugar snap peas, apple slices, and dried baby bananas.

The sandwiches were delicious.

It was a totally glorious day for walking around the museum, and we can't wait to go back again!  It is a really large museum, so it is next to impossible to see everything in one day...
(That was my coffee...)

Plus, the kids had been up late the night before at the local races with The Hubby, so maybe they were a little tired... this is after the museum.

This is just the beginning of our summer adventures!  I can't wait to do more!

Lunches for an Outing: Boating Day 8.23.15

Summer is winding down, and we are not going to have many more days on the boat!  We went out early Sunday morning, and spent the whole day on the lake.  It was a gorgeous day for it.

The kids did some leaping off the boat.

For lunches, I packed ham and cheese sandwiches, sugar snap peas, some trail mix, and a fruit bar.

As a bonus?  After lunch was eaten, Easylunchboxes become a great can holder!

School starts this Wednesday... not sure we are ready for summer to end...

Lunches for an Outing: The Wild Center - 8.20.2015

The kids are starting school next Wednesday, and summer has just flown by!  We decided to have one more big adventure of the summer, and we decided to make it a day trip to The Wild Center, over in Tupper Lake, NY.

The kids and The Hubby and I went there once before, three years ago.  This time, my mother came with the kids and I (The Hubby had to work, alas).

It was even better than last time!  We even got a behind-the-scenes tour, and got to meet some of the animals that aren't normally part of programs. It was fantastic.
Otters are tricky to get pictures of...

Boy loves Otters

The Boy has decided that otters are his favorite all-time animal, and spent so much time watching them.

We also got to check out their new Wild Walk, which is an elevated walkway above the treetops.  It even has a giant eagle's nest, and a rope spider's web!

There is an indoor trout stream, and so many adorable turtles...

And also, a chance for kids to do some art.

Amazing.  Can't recommend it enough.  It's totally worth the drive (for us, it's 2-3 hours each way, depending on which route we take).

For lunches, we ate at the counter looking out into the river.  I packed for us, in Easylunchboxes.

We had wraps with a shredded veggie mix, grilled chicken, and some light honey herb vinaigrette (store bought), along with plumcots (apricot plum hybrids), some trail mix, pea crisps, and champagne grapes.

If you are at all close to the area, I hope that you make it in to The Wild Center - it is a worthy adventure to have!

Lunches for an Outing: Camp Pickup #2, Montshire Museum: 7.25.15

The Girl finished up her second week of Girl Scout camp, and we had another great stop at the Montshire Museum before heading home.

She still didn't apply quite enough sunblock on her face, but otherwise she had a great week, and she's already planning on what sessions of camp to go to next year.

At the Montshire, the kids got to play with electric circuits and led lights in the Tinkering Lab, play with lots of bubbles and mist in the bubbles, and so much more.

My mother and I particularly liked the pond life session, where we all got to look at organisms in pond water.  I saw my favorite, a Daphnia, or water flea.

I have a t-shirt of a daphnia.  It was kind of the mascot of a group of my friends in Sweden.  We were such lovely young geeks.

For lunch, I packed us sandwich thins with muhammara, turkey, and cheese, along with some heirloom mini tomatoes, champagne grapes, and sugar snap peas.

We were visited at lunch by a lovely Great Spangled Frittilary butterfly.  It was one of my father's favorites - a very special moment.

More adventures to come!
