Dinner By The Girl: Teriyaki Salmon and Chicken, Grilled Veggies, and Rice

The Girl decided she wanted to make dinner on Saturday night, so we let her choose what to make and do all the prep work.  The Hubby operated the grill, but she gave assistance with the basting and was right by his side.
The Hubby was right behind her.  I don't let the 10 year old operate a grill alone.
The rice that we had was just Uncle Ben's Ready Rice - she chose butter and garlic flavor.

We bought a teriyaki marinade, though it would have been simple enough to make it ourselves.  It was really hot and humid, so the less time in the kitchen, the better (thus, the microwave rice as well).

She coated the salmon and the chicken with the teriyaki marinade, and she decided to put some slices into the chicken breast before marinating, so that the flavor could permeate the whole thing.  She wanted to make both salmon and chicken because The Boy is not a fan of salmon, though the rest of us our.
The Boy kept eating slices of raw zucchini. Go figure.

She also made grilled zucchini, yellow squash, and baby red potatoes, which she decided to spice up with a little smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt.  She cut all the veggies by herself with a sharp paring knife (though I was there for supervision).

We got a new grill - half gas
And half charcoal!
All in all, it was a delicious meal, and she feels a great sense of accomplishment.  She's already planning her next kitchen adventure.

  1. This is great! I told my son that he will be in charge of dinners on Wednesdays throughout the summer. He is excited about it.
